It is cultivated all over Greece, producing great wines with characteristic high acidity and mineratliy. Crete plays an important role in the production of high quality wines from the Assyrtiko grapes as the one from the Cretan mountainous vineyards typically has more intense aromas of herbs and while flowers. Assyrtiko wine is the best pairing with fish food.
